A
Catfish Named Lou" tells the story of how a fish looked at river
pollution in Green Bay's East River before the Clean Water Act of
1972. This river smelled so bad,
people once tried to perfume it to cover up the smell!
Music style: folk-rock
I was walking
down the East River
and something jumped and popped my shoe.
I didn't even know what hit me,
and I knew not what to do.
It spun me
round and I fell down,
that's when I met a slimy catfish named Lou.
I didn't even know what hit me,
and I knew not what to do.
Chorus:
"It's a crime, it's a shame," he said.
"To trash our East River bed."
"I've been elected by my brothers
and supported by our mothers to talk to you.
We all need to work together,
before it all gets better, that's why we need you.
"They sent
me out to find a reason
why my baby sister's weezing
each time she swims to school.
I don't like to assume,
but it might be the perfume
your fathers threw."
(CHORUS repeated)
"I've been
working overtime,
every day and night
to clean my river just for you.
You people seem to keep on throwing
all your trash and I can't keep up with you.
"How would you like it if I
threw my worms and crayfish in your living room?
I think your mother would be angry
with the smell if we tried to cover up with her perfume."
